The WTCC returned for the 2009 season on September 18th-20th. Summer of ’09 saw the creation of the Nuova Variante Bassa, which was necessary to meet the homologation requirements of the International Motorcycling Federation. This addition is able to neutralize the slight right-hand bend characteristic of the track for the cars and is located in front of the pit lane. It adds new ideas for technicality, competitive spirit and performance from a racing point of view to the track. The work on this project concluded on July 7th and were tested by the Superbike Champions during the official test that took place from July 14th to 16th. This made sure the track was ready for the highly anticipated round of the World Superbike Championship that was hosted by Imola 25th-27th of September of that year.
